You gotta love group buying sites. I was able to save a couple of thousand last year on food and wellness deals. More than than, I was able to try some of restaurants that I’ve never dined at including World Topps in Valero Plaza, Makati City.
I and my companion that day were the first customers of the restaurant at a little over 5PM. As such, I was able to take a look at the small, but well designed restaurant. Their white walls and dimmed lighting reminded me of small, fine dining restaurant. They had a very organized and well-lit shelve of magazines for waiting customers. By 6PM the interior of the restaurant was bathed in soft light for a cozy ambiance. They would have achieved it if not for the steel and plastic chairs that weren’t so comfortable.
It took them more than ten minutes to serve our orders. I did not mind it all because I was thinking that they just opened and they’re still on the warm-up mode. Plus, I was enjoying reading an article on American silver eagles, the official silver bullion coins of the US. What I did mind was they served our food without a tray. Granted that we’re just two or three steps away from the reception; they should still have used a tray to serve our meals.
Given the less than stellar service, I was hoping that their food would redeem itself. After all, it took them more than 10 minutes to serve us — the first and only customers at that time. But my sisig disappointed me. True, the serving was generous. But the sisig was a bit dry for my liking. There’s nothing good to mention about it .
My friend had the Beef Salpicao. Here’s one thing you should know about him: he lived next door to World Topps in Katipunan before and was a regular customer. Their spicy beef salpicao was a favorite of his so he’s basically an expert on this dish. He did say that the dish he got at Valero does not taste the same as the one in Katipunan.
If I paid the full amount for it and not used a voucher, I would have been seriously disappointed. I do think their dishes are overpriced. You’re paying for the ambiance of the place rather than the food. As far as sisig goes, I would be happier with Mang Jimmy’s sizzling sisig in UP Diliman.
