scandal willie revillameA few days before the May 10, 2o1o elections, Wowowee host Willie Revillame made a very public outburst against the Buzz host Jobert Sucaldito. The reason for his ungentlemanly conduct is the latter’s criticisms. Jobert, in his radio show, criticized the producers of Wowowee for inviting students with averages between 75 to 79 to audition in the show and be chosen as studio contestants.  Willie Revillame took offense and lashed out against Jobert Sucaldito. He then threatened to resign if ABS-CBN’s management do not fire Jobert.

I do understand why Jobert Sucaldito said what he did.  My daughter and niece watch Wowowee and these students are not ideal role models for them. On the other hand, my mom pointed out that the show is all about giving hope and inviting such students gives them hope that they can still turn around their lives and make something good out of it.  Now, if only Willie Revillame explained it to his viewers that way there wouldn’t be a Willia Revillame-Jobert Sucaldito scandal.  He would still be hosting his noon time show and earning a million bucks an episode.

Now, a week after Robin Padilla has started hosting the show with Pokwang and the rest of the Wowowee girls, I stumbled upon Willie Revillame’s resignation letter in Rod Magaru’s blog, which he got from Ricky Lo of the Philippine Star. The letter is dated May 12, 2010, two days after the election and a day after Manny Villar conceded to Noynoy Aquino. It makes me think that his decision to resign was spurred by the fact that his presidential bet just lost the election.  If Manny Villar won, I don’t think Willie Revillame will write this letter.   Anyway, here’s the letter:

12 May 2010

MR. EUGENIO LOPEZ III
Chairman of the Board
ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.
Mo. Ignacia Ave., Quezon City
Through: Ms. Charo Santos-Concio
President
ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp
.

Dear Sir Gabby and Ma’am Charo,

I have labored over the past week on what to do in the face of another setback in my relations with the management of the network. ABS-CBN has been my home for the last five years and five months and it has given me the greatest gift – the opportunity to reach out to people who have so little in life.

In the process, I have come to realize that my gratitude to the network would be more meaningful if I considered the impact of my recent actions which has placed the station in a bad light. This is among the reasons, as I will explain in this letter, that I humbly request the management, to release me as a talent of the network.

It is no secret that the program “Wowowee,” for almost five and a half years, has been the core of my existence. The program gives me a sense of purpose because I make people happy and I give them hope that, despite their difficulties, they can make things happen for themselves. Because of this, my world has revolved around the show. The desire to make it the best noontime show, has consumed my waking hours, as I conceptualize its format and contents from Monday to Saturday. Apart from this, I want the show to give the network excellent ratings to maintain its reputation as the leader in the broadcasting industry.

My devotion to the show is unparalleled that I have even been besieged by health problems due to the long hours I spend daily, thinking of how to bring “Wowowee” closer to the public. In fact, I have developed a heart blockage, which has already once posed a real threat to my life. I have sacrificed so much. Now, I have to accept the reality that I also have to take good care of my health.

Hence, it is very painful to hear every time my show is the target of unwanted and unnecessary tirades. I do not think that these people even have the slightest clue of what I go through to put together a show like “Wowowee”’. The show is not for me, but for those people who dream of a better life. Is it too much to ask that we be respected for what we do? Is it too much to ask that we be defended from such attacks?

My outburst last week during the live presentation of the show is nothing more than a reflection of my frustration over these things, and was not at all meant to disrespect the network and its management. I implore you to understand that several incidents, which were beyond my control which have marred the reputation of the show to some extent, have already taken their toll on me.

There was the “Wilyonaryo” incident wherein we were accused of deceiving contestants about their winnings; the Ultra stampede wherein I was blamed and severely criticized; the misunderstanding about my remarks when the coverage of the funeral of the late Pres. Corazon Aquino was unexpectedly shown in the giling-giling portion of “Wowowee”’s airing, for which I have apologized. In all these incidents, I took responsibility even if I was not at fault.

I do not want to cause any further embarrassment to the network. I know that all these have caused so much strain on our relations and I would like to save the situation by asking that I be released as a talent of the station. This way, I will have the much-needed space and time to contemplate on my direction in life and, at the same time, maintain the relationships I have built within the network, which are all worth preserving.

Before I end this letter, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to all the important people I have had the good fortune to work with during the years I have been with ABS-CBN.

There will never be enough words to express my gratitude to all of you…

Salamat at mabuhay po kayong lahat!

Respectfully yours,

Willie B. Revillame

Even in his resignation letter, Willie sounded pompous.  I cannot feel any sincerity nor any remorse for what he has done.  He deserves the backlash that he is getting now after all the Willie Revillame scandals that occurred during his five year-reign in the kapamilya network.  Goodbye to a you – - you megalomaniac, power-tripping ass!

To the writer of this column,

People like you, is too many to mention in the Philippines. Filipinos are so dramatic in life, you don’t know how to reset your thinking. People like you are backward thinkers, even how much you say against Willie, he still comes out as the winner, he is still the billionaire and not you, you and the 70 to 80 % of Filipinos, who follows the same dramatic life attitude.

Filipinos needs to know the formula of reset, and move forward to progress in life. Why look back on situation, which you think that could justify what happens today. Let the problem of today be solved by the formula of today, not by looking back at what had happen before. WIllie was vocal and was not able to endure with anger management due to the comments which was based of previous faults, where Jubert was following on the same formula of criticizing. Guys, if Willie became a Billionaire becuase of what he is, because of doing what he loves to do, because of telling what he wants to tell, then why not study that attitude of Willie and follow the same formula to come out as winner. I am not saying that you will follow what Willie did, what I am saying is the principle of the methodology or the system that you need to do in order to strengthen you attitude to come out as winner, not by judging and looking only at the faults of others. Guys you will not come out a winner if you are following the same old school tactics. Just obserev what happen with the previous elections, how can Filipinos vote for Lito Lapid and make Riza Hontiveros Baraquel lost. It’s so insane.

, whatever happens in the fast and being moved forward should not be reflected to achived

    @Steil

People like you who believe in Willie so much are the same backward thinking people that voted for Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla and other undeserving officials in this country. As Adam Cordolla would say:

“Here’s how you know when your country doesn’t have a lot going for it: When everything is about Willie Revillame”

“Get a fuckin’ life as a country.”

“All they have over there is Willie Revillame ….”

Nothing against Willie, but it’s about time that he resigns. I do not approve of his actions all the time, but I firmly believe that he sincerely cares about the Filipino masses; he has his unpleasant tendencies, but I don’t believe he is a complete monster as most people perceive him to be. I realize that not everybody is going to miss him; as I have read in earlier comments, many are actually happy that he leaves ABS-CBN, and I am not about to contest that. However, Mr. Revillame departure would be a great loss to the station in general. I appreciate the joy he has brought to those “who have so little in life”. For that, he will be missed. Good luck, Willie.

All things considered, Willie had a point but he could have just taken it in stride and like a good boxer just rolled with the blow and inserted some quips to let his detractor know that he didn’t care. Each one had a job to do and he did his quite well. He shouldn’t have let his ego got the better of him. Anyway, he could still make good in another show. Wait and see!

    • Nica

Pete, I agree with you. We haven’t seen the last of Willie. He’d still be back and doing more shows. Yun lang sana, he will learn some humility in the meantime. The ABS-CBN bosses who continue to support him have lots of those, sana mahawaan sya.

Money and fame had ruined his attitude and clouded his mind. It happens all the time. Even Mr. Villar, the favorite of Willie, had his failings in spite of his billions. I am reminded of Tower of Babel. The tower collapsed due to its ambition and arrogance.
