Ulayaw @ Gilligan’s Island MOA

It’s always a happy occasion when a friend comes home from abroad.  That’s what happened last Saturday when Ice treated us — by us I mean her Ulayaw family — to a very long dinner at Gilligan’s Island at SM Mall of Asia.  It’s the largest EB we had so far, 24 attendees as I recall, and some came from as far as Baguio just to welcome her here. I am so happy that the event was a success and that Ice will be taking very happy memories with her when she flies back home to the UK.

Meanwhile, we weren’t as happy with the service at Gilligan’s.  That particular branch seemed understaffed judging from the frequency by which we had to follow up on our orders and ask them to clear the table. Our first order came out 30 minutes after we placed it and they forgot to include the 3 orders of sizzling pork sisig that went along with it.  We were too hungry to care so we just let it slip.

After the first set of orders have been consumed and more people arrived, we ordered more food . This time, one of the waiters forgot to call in our order so we were waiting for nothing until we followed up and found out that the order wasn’t placed. So we ordered it again  and, similar to our first order, it took  a while for the food to be served. Thank God some of the newcomers were already done with their dinner so I didn’t have to deal with hungry, mutinous chatters that night.

Service aside, I found Gilligan’s a good venue for an event.  There’s room for a large group of people and the place doesn’t play loud music. More importantly, the food is very affordable. You can expect large servings for every dish and they have packages for 6 people, which weren’t available at the Gerry’s Grill or Dencio’s.  Notable dishes include the Fish Fillet with Garlic Mayo Dip, Crispy Pata, Veggie Kare-Kare, and Pork Sisig.

I end this post by sharing with you a kaulayaw’s very candid tale of  his first (and hopefully not his last) EB experience. Just click on this title: I Survived an Ulayaw EB!
