TV Review: New Girl
I am writing this blog post as a I am watching the pilot of Zooey Deschanel‘s newest series, New Girl. As I’m watching her, I couldn’t help but remember that she is Emily Deschanel’s sister. Those same beautiful big eyes, clear skin, and deep voice. So what is this show about?
New Girl is about Jess Day, a quirky teacher who recently dumped her boyfriend for cheating on her. She moves in with three guys who are looking for a roommate: Coach (Damon Wayans Jr), Schmidt (Max Greenfield), and Nick (Jake Johnson). On her first week with the guys, she took over the couch and watched Dirty Dancing several times every single day. Only when the guys took her out did she move from the sofa. Unfortunately, she ended up chatting with some Asian douche bag who stood her up on their first date. Why? She sent him 7 long text messages. Thank goodness her room mates had the kind hearts to leave the party and fetch her.
The show also stars Hannah Simone has Cece Meyers, Jess’ model bestfriend. She’s feisty and street smart. She’s going to help Cece get back on her feet and join the rat race to love.
New Girl is Hot!
Ratings say that 10.28 million people watched the New Girl debut on Fox, making it the highest rated fall sitcom debut for the network in the last decade. I’m guessing that the same viewers would tune in next week since the show’s going to introduce a new guy to the cast, Lamorne Morris. He’s going to play Winston, whose character is going to replace that of Wayans. The latter has to leave the show to return to Happy Endings in its second season.
My Expectations
The show reminds me of My Boys, Two Guys and Girl, and How I Met Your Mother. Jess, with her penchant for singing to herself, promises to be another lovable character. I just wonder who among her three room mates would fall in love with her. Though the heart broken Nick seems to be the most likely, I’d like to see the modern day Casanova, Schmidt, to fall in love with her.
