I treasure the few friendships I have. They’ve not only withstood the test of time, but also that of distance and separation. I consider myself lucky that distance and non-communication have not weaken the bond I have with them.

Mic is one of these friends. After we graduated from college, she retuned home to Butuan and me to Laguna. Fortunately, her job as a project development officer for NEDA allows her to travel around the country and once a year we get to meet and bond. I consider the fact the we don’t feel the need to regularly send casual text or instant messages to each other as a sign that we both feel secure with our friendship.

Now to the point of this post: she is getting married. She sent me an instant message yesterday saying that she has a BIG news. The first thing that came to my mind is that she is getting married, although I’m not aware that she has a boyfriend at the moment. And I was right. She’s getting married early next year, either January or March 8, to an engineer.

I must admit I was stunned for a moment when she confirmed what I’ve been thinking. I’ve known her for quite sometime now and this is something I did not expect her to do after just months of being with someone. Somehow I thought she would want a long engagement. So I had to ask: Is he the one?

I did not have to wait long for her answer: YES. That was what I needed to hear. I told her I’m happy for her and wish that I could make it to her wedding. It’s in Butuan after all and its such a long way from home. But Mic’s wedding is definitely something I don’t want to miss. So I guess I have to save for the laptop so I can still do my work when I go there.
