What do you do when you’re dissatisfied with a meal you’ve just eaten? Do you…
- eat a smaller, better-tasting meal?
- wash it down with coffee?
- reward yourself with dessert?
I’d go for the second and third option at Sugarhouse. The cakes are as delicious as they look and the price ain’t bad either. Pair the cakes with black coffee and you’ll soon forget about that disappointing meal that you’ve just had.
Sansrival is perhaps my all-time favorite cake. I remember back in high school, my mom’s friend, Tita Lida, would bake me a rectangular 9X13 sansrival cake for my birthday and ‘Id eat that for about a week. I haven’t seen her (or tasted her sansrival) for years now so I’m on the hunt for the sansrival of my childhood. Sugarhouse’s Almond Sansrival with it’s crunchy almond flakes is in my short list.
I’ve never had turtle pie before because it’s not readily available in San Pedro, Laguna. Goldilocks and Red Ribbon do not carry it, nor do the local cafes and bakeshops here. But after getting a taste of Surgarhouse’s chewy Turtle Pie, I can now say that I’m a fan of turtle pie. I even ordered it at CBTL last December but decided after the first three bites that Sugarhouse’s is better.
