One of the things I love at the place I work now is the fact that we cook our lunch. But once in a while we go out and eat at one of the many restaurants near Jupiter area in Makati City. One place we tried is Lola’s Best in Makati Avenue.
At first glance, I was expecting the restaurant to have a pricier menu. The ambiance of the place was quite fancy for a regular “carinderia.” It was air-conditioned and well-it. There’s an LCD TV showing pictures of grandparents and an audio player blasting the soothing sound of “Tennessee Waltz” in the background. You also get custom-made Lola’s Best table mats on your table. Utensils and tableware were of high quality and so were the glassware. Definitely not your local carinderia.
Now, we come to the food. As you would in a “turo-turo” or a canteen, you get to point at the dishes you want from the other side of a glass encased set of food warmers. It was really a surprise for me since I was expecting to be sat down and handed a menu. But I don’t mind getting a look at the food I’m ordering. At least I know it looks good.
After ordering, it took about ten minutes for all of our orders to be served. I had fried alumahan and rice for P50. It was served with soy sauce and calamansi, which is how we eat it at home. The others had chopseuy, Bicol express, and dinuguaan.
The chopseuy was unremarkable and the bicol express is so-so. The dinuguan was a good order and it’s something that Gabby will like. Two of us also ordered their Moringa Citrus drink. This is like malunggay-flavored iced tea and it tastes quite good. It costs P15 per glass along with the raspberry ice tea.
Next time I’m eating there I will order their bangus sardines, lumpiang ubod and sandosenang halo halo because I heard that it’s really one of their best -sellers. I will even try their eat-all-you can merienda between 3pm to 6pm for only P99. But I’m gonna make sure I don’t eat a heavy lunch beforehand so I can get the most out of it. Aja!
