Show Real Love, Share Happiness

When I was in college, it was a requirement for us to volunteer to UP Pahinungod on our last year. Our professor thought it was a way of giving back to the community that pays for most of our tuition fees.

There were three ways that you can volunteer — as a paralagel, teacher, or carer. The last one, the carer, has to visit the Children’s Cancer Ward at East Avenue Medical Center and spend their time caring for the kids and entertaining them. I joined the paralegal team helping convicted felons in Quezon City Jail but was able to attend one of the parties thrown by my batchmates who volunteered at the Cancer ward. The look of happiness in those children’s faces warms my heart to this day.

This is why I am supporting Kythe Inc.’s Child Life Program. The organization aims to improve the quality of life for pediatric cancer patients by uplifting their spirits and strengthening hope in patients and their families in eight hospitals in Metro Manila, Davao, and Cebu.

Supporting their cause is Unilever Foodsolutions and Team Manila. Unilever sponsors fun and entertaining events for the pediatric cancer patienst, allowing them to make delicious sandwiches using Best Foods and Lady’s Choice Food Products.

Team Manila, on the other hand, came up with a specially designed, limited-edition shirt which will be available in Team Manila outlets in Rockwell, SM Mall of Asia, Trinoma and online through its website. You can buy a shirt for P550. Part of the proceeds of the sale of this shirt will go directly to Kythe Foundation and its Child Life Program.

I will share my love to the kids of Kythe by giving them what they need, TIME. This is the best opportunity to know more about these kids and spend quality time with them. It can be a simple story telling or a day out at the mall, not that expensive but I think they will like the experience since these kids don’t deserve the hardship they endure at a very young age.

They deserve to feel how to be a kid. Just like what ‘Kayth’ means (where they derived Kythe) it means healing through simple sharing and togetherness.
