The best thing about our Magalawa Island Weekend Getaway in Zambales was that we were served fresh seafood in every meal. With all the crabs, shrimp, and fish that I ate, I was on gastronomic high during that weekend.
Locally known as “onse onse,” these crabs have shells that are hard to crack. Each also has 11 spots on their shells, hence the name. We had in three out of four meals.
Fish served during our first lunch looked like royalty with their “horns.” This is a friend being playful and hoping it would turn to a prince charming.
This was our dinner. We didn’t get to enjoy it very much because of the “niknik,” which are like mosquitoes on steroids.
On our last lunch, we had calamares, to the delight of many. These may not be the best I have tasted but it’s certainly the freshest!
Last meal’s fish was cooked “escabeche” style. I liked this better than the fish from our first lunch because it has softer meat.
Food Tips for Magalawa Island Travelers
- Bring your appetite. All these fresh, delicious food will go to waste if you stuff yourself with junk food.
- Have an antihistamine ready. You never know what you might be allergic to. But don’t go overboard by bringing medical equipment. It’s extra weight you don’t want to be carrying around.
- Practice moderation. If you easily get “high blood” on seafood, then don’t eat much. Otherwise, you would spend your vacation resting.
- Easy on the soda. Every meal, they served RC Pop Cola. I prefer to drink water at such times because soft drinks fill me up easily.
