I went through my pregnancy alone. There wasn’t any husband or boyfriend to help cater to my cravings and take care of me. If I wanted to eat seedless watermelons, big green Ponkas, or Davao bananas, I had to walk to the market near UP Village and buy them myself. If I wanted to eat butterfingers (yes, the chocolate), I had to go over at Mercury Drug Store in Philcoa to buy some. Fortunately, I didn’t crave much and I didn’t have the pregnancy symptoms that other mothers complained about — the vomiting, nausea, and sensitivity to smell . It was a very healthy pregnancy if I may so myself.
The only thing that confounded me and my OB-GYNE was the fact that I cannot pinpoint exactly how far along I was in the pregnancy phase. The good thing was the baby looked healthy during the ultrasound tests. Even so, she had me take prenatal vitamins with extra iron and Anmum. I must say that I loved drinking Anmum, especially the chocolate flavor. That is one thing that I always craved for. I religiously drink two glassed of Anmun daily, sometimes more, depending on my cravings.
Aside from fruits, butterfinger, and Anmum, I also craved for long walks. Since I was staying in UP Village during my pregnancy, I took long walks along the village. I also walked the three or four block-distance from my house to the ESL school I taught in. I did this everyday and it served as my exercise. I was happy walking. It gives me time to collect my thoughts and just be at peace with myself.
I could go on an on about my pregnancy but that would take too much time. So I am leaving you with a picture of my daughter, Gabby.
