I’ve been thinking about buying a secondhand car lately. It is definitely handy when your moving, which I recently did. But the high costs of maintaining one is a definite turn off, not to mention the fact that I don’t know a single thing about cars. This post, however, is not about my wanting to buy a car. It’s about my experiences with men who have cars. Some are funny, some aren’t. Humor me for now.
The Chief of Staff
I was a third year college student when I dated a chief of staff of a congressman from Pangasinan. Dating him was done as a favor to my friend who was dating his boss. On our first date, we headed to Antipolo after a delicious dinner with my friend and her date somewhere in Katipunan.
Now, this is my first time to date someone with a car and it was annoying. All the way to Antipolo he kept asking me if I notice something off with the balance of the car. I told him that I don’t know anything about cars so I’m not the best person to ask about it. He then took it upon himself to educate me about tires and wheels. If I remember correctly, it was a one way conversation to Antipolo. He even mentioned car insurance companies and what I should choose when I buy one. I faked interest, aaah-ing and oohhh-ing and nodding at appropriate intervals. Fortunately, he shifted topic when we got to Antipolo. I guess I passed his test because we went out a few more times after that until I left for the school break and lost my phone.
The Drummer
This is another guy I dated for a while in my senior year at UP. He was the band mate of my cousin’s boyfriend and we met at a gig of theirs. He had an old, beat up KIA Pride which I liked. And I liked riding in it because he’s very funny. Plus, he drives fast.
In one instance, he texted me where I was and I told him I was staying at the UP Main Library until midnight. Come midnight, he asked me if I have a ride home and when I told him I didn’t, he drove to UP to fetch me and take me home. He was already home at that time (he is from Antipolo and a Blue Eagle) and getting ready for bed. He must have driven like a madman because he was there in 20 minutes.
The Muay Thai Guy
I had brief fling with this guy last year and he is from the same town as I am. He’s very laid back and cool. One of my fondest memories of him is the last time he drove me home. We went out to get caffeinated but ended up eating at McDo in one of the toll plazas in SLEX where we saw a Jay Cuenca look alike. We were very playful that night and play we did on the way home while he is driving. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you the details. Suffice to say it was very… playful and fun.
