Fans of the Underworld franchise flocked to the cinemas last Friday, January 20, to watch the fourth installment of this gothic vampire vs. werewolves tale. Underworld: Awakening resumes from where the second movie ended and begins with the genocide of werewolves and vampires. Selene (Beckinsale) and Michael decides to move out only to be bombed to oblivion by human forces. Or so we thought.
Fast forward to 12 years later, Selene wakes up from a long-deep sleep inside a cryogenic chamber. She manages to escape the Antigen research facility and connects with David (Theo James), a young vampire. He helps her find and save Eve (India Eisley) by bringing them to his coven.
Eve, as it turns out, is the daughter of Selene and Michael, and that their enemies are after her. She’s the first hybrid child to be born and allowed to live and she’s more powerful than anyone.
The fight for Eve begins and I guess we know who wins, right? But where’s Michael? Is he dead? You’ve got to watch the film to find that out.
What to expect?
- A naked Selene on the floor — stunning
- Jaw-dropping stunts from Selene
- A puzzling moment when Selene brings David back to life — how did she do that?
- An “I knew it” moment when you realize who’s protecting the supposedly extinct lycans
- An “Exorcist” moment when Eve turns monster-ish
Was it worth watching in 3D?
Absolutely yes! You can tell that the the film’s really shot with the 3D audience in mind because there were some scenes where you can feel the glass the shatter or the thrower cutting through the screen. I bet it would be nice to watch in the large screens of Imax.
Recommendation
If you like non-stop action, a sexy-corseted woman kicking lycan ass, and hot young vampire stud wielding a silver whip, you have to watch this. It’s a breath of fresh air after watching a made-for-teen vampire movies. And don’t watch it streaming online while your in a pool cabana; it’s best watched on a big screen.
