Is Facebook Killing the Paper Invitations Business?
My cousin is getting married on November with a guy that I introducer her to, I remember getting flack for introducing them because it ruined the long time relationship she had with someone else. But looking at her prenup pictures and seeing how happy they seem to be, I guess she found the love of her life.
But then last week, I received a “Save the Date” event invitation from Facebook. Turns out it;s from them, inviting me to their wedding. Naturally, I said yes. But this made me think: Is Facebook invitations killing the stationery business?
I looked back and tried to remember when was the last time I received a paper invitation to anything. I think the last one was a wedding invitation from two years ago. But since last year, every invitation was sent out of Facebook. Event, birthday, and wedding invites were sent out through Facebook or email. If sent by Facebook, you can easily confirm your attendance to the event by choosing between the three available Yes, No, or Maybe. If sent by email, you can just reply with your decision.
But wait, I do remember Gabby receiving a couple of birthday invitations early this year. These were the kind of invitations that you can buy from the mall or specialty stores. They’re not exceptionally pretty or something you would like to collect, but they’re good for themed children’s birthday parties.
How about you, when was the last time you received a paper invitation to anything?

I completely agree with you about not receiving paper invitations anymore! I think it’s quite sad! I’m probably one of few who actually send out paper invites for everything! Though, I kinda have to since I design homemade invitations! I started a website, http://www.easymadeinvitations.com to help people who want to make beautiful invitations by hand. I give them all the ideas they need to make their own creations. Sure, facebook is easier, but it certainly isn’t very rewarding or personal! Hopefully that will change!
Hi Lindsay! WOW! I checked your site and your homemade invitation for the baby shower is so classic, so elegant. I hope that you would still be able to do good business despite the decline in the use of paper invitations!
