In Review: How To Train Your Dragon

Normally, you wouldn’t catch me watching an animated film in the cinema unless I am with my daughter. But last Sunday, at the invite of a good friend, I watched How To Train Your Dragon on 3D at Gateway. I went inside the movie house hoping it’s not a waste of the Php270 I paid for the ticket and I came out swearing it was worth every damn penny I paid for it. That’s how good the movie is.

How To Train Your Dragon is one of those films that parents can enjoy with their kids. It tackles the familial issues of acceptance, following you parent’s dreams, and pursuing your dreams. The storyline is also refreshing:  although dragons are popular figures in animated films, having a dragon for a pet isn’t a common plot. Additionally, dragons in most movies are the same. But in this movie, there are different kinds of dragons, including two headed dragons and night furies.  I found this interesting and so did my daughter.

Friendship is another important concept that the movie tackled. My daughter finds it difficult to stay in good terms with some of the kids in our street but the movie taught her that as long as you do the right thing, it doesn’t matter if you have friends or not. Eventually, you will find people who will appreciate what you can do and who you are.

Overall, How To Train Your Dragon is a film worth watching in 3D even if you don’t have kids. It’s a feel good movie and I bet my dinner that you will leave the cinema smiling.
