Do you own a weighing scale? I don’t. But I am concious about the fact that I need to lose weight. I am more than 10 pounds off my ideal body weight and I need to shed those extra pounds off by eating healthier and getting off my butt.
But you know what, I have something, or someone rather, who’s like my own personal weighing scale and fitness buddy. That’s my daughter, Gabby. From time to time, she would tell me that I need to lose weight. Personally, I listen to her more than anyone else when it comes to my weight because at the end of the day, she’s the only one who I can count on to give me an honest, unadulterated opinion not only about my weight, but also on how I look.
My Fitness Buddy
Aside from being my own personal critic, Gabby’s my foremost fitness buddy. She would always accompany me whenever I go for short walks at nights, making the walks fun and enjoyable. These moments become real bonding moments for both us and I wouldn’t trade it for any exercise activity inside the gym… not for a treadmill run, not for 20 minutes at the stationary bicycle, and certainly not for a excruciating sessions of weight lifting.
She would also urge me to play badminton from time to time. I swear I get more exercise from picking up the shuttlecock than from actually playing badminton. Other times, she would accompany me and my friends to the badminton court, sit impatiently in the sidelines, and laugh when I make mistakes.
My Personal Weighing Scale
Today, Gabby embraced me from behind and told me the best thing I have heard all week — I’ve really lost weight. Well, that’s not exactly what she said. She said “Mama, pumayat ka na nga. Naabot na kita.” She meant that she can clasp her hands when she embrace me around the waist. Now, won’t you say that she’s my ultimate weighing scale?
Soon, Gabby and I would be alone at home again, with no one to cook for us. I feel like learning to cook healthy dishes with her on the weekends instead of just buying from the carinderia. I think she would be more inclined to eat vegetables — the best natural diet supplements around — if she learned how to prepare/cook them herself.
