I wrote two posts about the growing popularity of group buying sites in the Philippines. And you know what? There seems to be no stopping this phenomenon. Each month, I see a new group buying site launched online and I noticed that these sites are getting more and more niche specific. Just look at Healthy Deals Philippines.
Healthy Deals Philippines is the first group buying site that solely offers health and wellness related products and services. The company aims to keep Filipinos in the pink of health by offering HUGE savings on health options and wellness services. Similarly, the company helps health and wellness companies get a healthy bottom line by allowing them to reach a wider target market and audience online through their discounted offerings.
What is healthy deal?
From a consumer point of view, what is a healthy deal? First a healthy deal must offer a huge discount on the original price of the item. I’d say that at least 50% discount on items less than a thousand bucks and at at least 40% discount on items originally priced at more than a thousand. Why so? Because I learned from a friend, who’s a manager in supermarket, that they normally price item at 100% or 200% mark up. Thus, even at a 50% discount, companies are still breaking even. If the product or service is good, they get a repeat customer or good recommendation. That’s priceless word-of-mouth marketing!
Second, a deal must have a long redemption period. In some deal sites, you’re only allowed to redeem the deal on specific days/dates. I tried this once and wasn’t very happy with the way it turned out. There were too many people redeeming the deals and not enough manpower to provide service/support. I waited more than an hour just to get my food and lunch at noon became lunch at 1:30PM.
Third, a deal must be true to its promise. No to false advertising! Some blogger friends of mine bought deals in wellness establishments hoping to get the pampering they deserved. Some experienced poor customer service when the deal boasted of excellent staff . Others were shortchanged somehow. They bought a deal for half the price of ten grand from a spa. They were expecting to get ten grand’s worth of services but when they computed the prices of what they enjoyed, it was only worth eight grand. They complained and was pacified with gift checks from the spa. I applaud the spa for resolving the issue but this shouldn’t have happened at all. The staff should have been briefed on what the deal was and what it includes so instances like the one I just described don’t happen.
So, looking at the deals currently live on HealthyDeals.ph, I’d say that their deals on Healthy Coffee / Choco Drinks from Businesspeople is a healthy deal. It’s priced at 50% off (first qualification), has a long redemption period (until February 2012), and looks true to its promise. It’s a pretty straightforward deal. You buy the product at 50% off and pick it up. Simple.
