Heath’s Joker is undoubtedly his best perforamance (sadly, it was his last). True, I remember him from Ten Things I hate About You and Brokeback Mountain but his performance in this film is really, really unforgettable for a number of reasons. One is that it’s different from the roles he usually portrays. I had serious doubts about his ability to portray the manic character of Joker but he did so with great aplomb. He convinced me without a doubt that Joker is CRAZY! His performance definitely warrants an award. The Oscar please?
Another reason why Heath’s so unforgettable with this film is because he actually opened his mouth. I used to complain that I could barely see his mouth open when he speaks. But here, it’s as if he’s a completely different person. I actually saw his set of pearly whites (okay, not-so-whites) a number of times.
Enough of Heath. I’m not a fan of Christian Bale but I do think he did okay as Batman (I can’t forgive him for not being charming enough as Michael Keaton or gorgeous as George Clooney). I hate that Katie Holmes didn’t reprise her role (perhaps because her character was killed) as Rachel Dawes. Maggie Gyllenhaal didn’t do justice to the role, I think, and I can’t help but see Kirsten Dunst in her as everytime she’s onscreen.
The film was highly entertaining, the best Batman film ever in my opinion. I’m 100% sure that it wil be a box-office success. Of course, the death of Heath would contribute to that success. It’s just sad that Heath won’t be around to reap the accolades and success he deserves.
