Blogapalooza Inspired: A Guide to a Healthy Blogging Life
Last September 17, the first ever Blogapalooza business to blogger event was held in the 5th Floor of the Fully Booked branch in Bonifacio High Street. About 50 businesses presented their products to 130 excited bloggers. The event was both a visual feast (so many pretty and handsome bloggers roaming around) and a gastronomic delight (Italianni’s, Healthy First, and Size Matters provided free lunch and snacks) for many of those who were part of this remarkable occasion.
As I was preparing to write the blog post for the event, I noticed that there was a lot of health and wellness products/services presented during the event. So here’s a guide to healthy blogging life as inspired by Blogapalooza presenters.
1. Go for healthier snacks. You can try a small bag (30 grams) of Farmer John’s Premium Potato Chips from Leslie’s, which is available in four different flavors and two different cuts. These tasty chips are made of GMO-free Atlantic potatoes. They’re also free of cholesterol and trans fat, which makes them healthier than any their other counterparts in the market. If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to the local chicharon, try Wild Willy’s Real American Chicarones.
2. Substitute natural fruit juices for soft drinks. And i don’t mean the tetrapack kind. Attending Blogapalooza introduced me to Filipino made, natural fruit juices available in disposable plastic bottles from Healthy First. They have Four seasons and Mango Lychee flavors at P45 for every 500ml bottle. Too bad they’re not available in supermarkets. You can buy them at the Sidcor Sunday Market in Centris Walk.
3. Drink tea. Filipinos are coffee drinkers. That is an undeniable fact. Perhaps because it’s more delicious than tea. But Lipton is revolutionizing tea drinking in the Philippines by reinventing the way we drink tea. No longer are you confined to drinking it with honey or sugar; through Lipton’s Possibiliteas campaign, you can enjoy the Yellow Label tea as a choco drink, milk tea, or the wildly popular chai tea.
4. Keep your insides clean. By this I mean, your blood, your intestines. etc. I’m including this because my sister recently developed eczema in her right hand and it has taken a turn for the worse. Her dermatologist had her blood examined and they found out that she has a lot of bacteria in her blood. I recommended that she drink Easy Pha-Max Wheatgrass with Honey because it helps keep your blood clean. An alternative to this is the ready to drink Wheatgrass in cans available for P49 in 7-11 stores.
5. Keep your stress levels at bay. Research has shown that stress causes many health problems, including cancer. That’s why it’s very important that we should always make an effort to relax. Wearing a Phiten Rakuwa bracelet may reduce fatigue and relax your muscles and nerves even when you are at work. Meanwhile, massage has been proven effective in inducing relaxation and keeping your stress levels really low. Sparkle Hair Rebonding Treatment Center and Spa in Merville, Pasay City, offers full body massage services at affordable prices.
6. Keep physically fit. Exercise is not just for the overweight. It’s for everyone. Exercising can help you build your muscle and have a toned body. It makes you strong and less susceptible to diseases. You can have exercise at home with the help of home instructional videos or you can get fitness trainer help you do it in the gym. 360 Fitness Club guarantees to get you in shop in just 30 minutes a day through circuit training.
7. Dance your way to health – An alternative to the gym, many people now prefer to enroll in dance classes to get their daily or weekly dose of exercise. Just ask the ladies of Polecats Manila. They’re having loads of fun and keeping fit at the same time. Together, they’re elevating pole dancing as “the” fitness option for Filipina women.
8. Pamper yourself. After working hard in the gym or the dance studio, why not pamper yourself at Blue Water Day Spa? This is one of the best spas in the metro and it even allows you to combine watching movies and getting a massage. I have been lucky to try their services before and I can tell you that you will feel good once you come out of the spa. You’ll have the energy to face the coming week’s gym sessions!
9. Use natural personal care products. Research has shown that some ingredients found in personal care products can cause serious health problems. These include parabens, SLS, mineral oil, parfum, DEET and artificial colors. I have switched to using all-natural, all-organic personal care products from Human Nature and even registered as a dealer. What I can’t find in Human Nature I try to find in Oryspa, another proudly Filipino made all natural skin care line. You can also try the products of Aesthetic Science.
10. Have a cheat day. I learned this from our gym instructor before. Because you’re putting yourself on a strict diet most of the time, a cheat day would allow you to enjoy calorie-rich foods without feeling guilty. For cheat days, try Papa John’s pizza, Jap-Ok‘s affordable Japanese meals, and the oh-so-mouth watering sausage burgers of Size Matters.
Many thanks to Vince Golangco of WheninManila.com for organizing this wonderful event.
