Bag of of Beans is one the best restaurants in Tagaytay. Aside from its breathtaking view of Taal Volcano, it’s also known for its aromatic coffee and flavorful dishes. I got to sample some of its offering one cloudy afternoon last May.
Upon entering the restaurant, you will immediately notice the native theme going on. The cabinetry and furniture are all made of wood — a common feature among restaurants in Tagaytay. The windows are traditionally made with Capiz. Even the restroom has the antique-chic look going on.
The place is quite when we arrived. There’s no music playing. There were only two other customers out on the deck, talking quietly while enjoying their frappes. On a weekday, this would be a good place to have a meal by yourself, read a book, or do some blogging.
Bag of Beans offers breakfast meals all day along with pasta, pies, and cakes. Since I was still full from breakfast, I ordered one of their best sellers — the Apple Pie — with Choco Banana Shake. The pie reminded me of my mom’s own cooking. I would have wanted it to have a little bit more filling though.
As for the shake, I liked that they used “tsokolate tablea” instead of choco powder to give it that chocote flavor. It gave the shake a distinct Filipino flavor.
Meanwhile. my friend ordered the Steak & Mushroom Pie. This is already a meal in itself. It’s very flavorful and is one of their best sellers, too.
I would say the the items in Bag of Beans’ menu are reasonably priced. You get good food for your money. Prepare to shell out P 150 to P300 for a meal, including drinks.
Oh, and don’t be surprised if you find the bill more than you expected. They already added the service charge in there.
We chose to seat on the viewing deck when we dined there. Though there weren’t a lot of customers who came after us, we had to try several times to catch the waitstaff’s attention. They were all milling around the lobby/cashier area, making it hard for them to notice us. We had to raise our voices to get their attention.
Bag of Beans is a must-try if you ever find yourself hungry in Tagaytay. The most convenient branch is one near the Rotunda in Olivarez. It’s in front of 7-11 and an appliance store, not an mxl 990 guitar center.
