A Taste of Italy @ Friuli Tratoria
Maginhawa Street in UP Village has become a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts visiting Quezon City. A quick drive along the street would reveal a series of interesting restaurants one of which is Friuli, a tratoria serving authentic, freshly baked pizza, pasta, coffee, and cakes.
The name Friuli refers to an area in northern Italy that historically served as a center of the Roman empire. It has figured significantly in the Middle Ages up until the golden age of the Venetian Empire. The Friulian culinary heritage is charactertized by lots of hams, dairy products, and seafood.
Back to present, I, Gabby and my sister dined at Friuli last night after a client meeting in Katipunan. The place is small but cozy. Since the first floor is already fully occupied, we climbed the narrow spiral staircase to the second floor, which holds more tables for loyal patrons, who are mostly UP students.
Since the place expanded two months ago, my sister says that service has become slower, probably because everything is cooked from scratch and they have a small kitchen. Water was served after we placed our order and Gabby was given a free Zesto tetra pack while waiting for the food.
The Meaty Spaghetti arrived first. Since we we’rent really hungry (I just had a donut at Starbucks an hour or so ago), the pasta was enough for the three of us. Their serving would be ideal for two persons, though.
Since the Marghueritta pizza is taking too long to be served (I think we waited 30 minutes for it), we had the Pharaoh’s Gelatto cake served. It was shaped like a pyramid with crushed pistachio on top. I thought it was small but it was definitely worth the 90 pesos my sister paid for it.
The Marghueritta pizza (Php 169) arrived after we ordered our coffees, which were given free as part of the Friuli’s re-opening promo. It definitely looked like an authetic Italian pizza and tasted like one. I’m just sorry I cannot have given you a better picture since we only used my sister’s camera phone.
Our bill came with three pieces of Mentos candy. My sister paid less than 400 for the whole meal and I even took home 5 slices of pizza. We vowed to come back and try other items on their menus. If ever you’re in the vicinity of UP Diliman, you must try this little tratoria in Maginhawa Street.

I’m having some difficulty trying to load your blog. I have read it many times before and never gotten something like this, but now when I try to load something it just takes a little while (4-11 minutes ) and then just stops. I’ve tried with www or not. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
