Shopping at Chinatown Manila is one of the most exciting things for me. It makes me feel like I’m Alice…its a wonderland of untried food, new experiences, interesting sounds, unwanted smells (i’m thinking of horse’s dung), and photo-perfect sights. And whenever I visit Chinatown, I always go to the Bee Tin Grocery.
Last time I went there, I was with a couple of friends form Ulayaw and my daughter Gabby. She was delighted to see racks and racks of candies and chocolates in pretty boxes or containers.
This box of assorted candies caught her attention because it was displayed in the far end of the store along with other pretty boxes. If you look closely at the writing, you’d see 2010. I was thinking it was intended for the Chinese New Year celebration.
I am not sure if you can distinguish between the myriad of chocolate candies displayed in the background, but there’s chocolate gold coins, chocolate eggs, and chocolate bars in there. Gabby really had fun time digging through them and choosing which one to purchase.
We ended up buying tamarind candies (her favotite), dried orange peels, happiness misua, dried meat, and chocolate eggs. It’s a good selection except for the dried orange peels which tasted like burnt paper. I still have them stocked somewhere in my drawers. Even those greedy ants don’t want them.
